Write the Aleph Bet in Ktav Ashuri

Celebrate the giving of the Torah by experiencing the work of a sofer.

Introduction

Ingredients

  • a quill or reed pen

  • India ink 

  • Parchment paper

Alternatively, you can use: 

  • a paint brush

  • black tempera paint 

  • some thick card stock or plain white paper to try your hand at Hebrew calligraphy.

Preparation

Copy the letters of the aleph bet and their ornamentation. 


In doing so you will connect to over 3,300 years of tradition. 


You can remove India ink from your skin and clothes with some rubbing alcohol.
