Build Your Own Ancient Egyptian Mud Brick House

Ancient Israelite slaves did not build pyramids! They built storehouses for grain and other food. Make your own mud bricks and build an Ancient Egyptian house.

Introduction

What You'll Need

  • Dirt with high clay content

  • Dry grass or straw

  • Water

  • Ice cube tray

  • Plastic cling wrap

  • Cookie sheet

Preparation

Step 1


Preheat the oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit (260 degrees Celsius).



Step 2


Mix the dirt and water to get a thick mud.



Step 3


Knead in the dry grass or straw.



Step 4


Line the ice cube tray with the plastic cling wrap.



Step 5


Press the mud mixture into the ice cube tray.



Step 6


Unmold the mud bricks onto the cookie sheet.



Step 7


Bake for 60 minutes. 



Step 8


Remove from oven and allow to cool.



Step 9


Build an Ancient Egyptian house.
