Orange-Infused Buns

In honor of Israel’s Jaffa oranges, here is a recipe for a truly 'sabra' Lag BaOmer treat. This year you can try buns cooked in orange peels in the embers.


If you do not have time to prepare the dough in advance, use refrigerated dough from the supermarket or brownie, cake, or muffin mix. If lighting a bonfire near where you live is completely out of the question, the outdoor grill or fire pit will do.


  • Large oranges

  • Dough, mixed with chocolate chips and nuts if desired


Step 1

Slice the oranges in half.

Step 2

Scoop out the pulp.

Step 3

Fill one half of each orange with dough.

Step 4

Close it with an empty orange half.

Step 5

Wrap tightly with 3 layers of aluminum foil.

Step 6

Place in the bonfire. Cover with hot coals.

Step 7

Bake the dough for 30 minutes.

Step 8

Unwrap the oranges and enjoy!
